Borrowing Library Materials

AFFILIATED LIBRARY PATRONS

Current Students, Faculty, and Staff

All current LRU/LTSS students may check out books for a four-week loan period, with a limit of 50 books at a time. Those auditing a class may check out five (5) books at a time for four (4) weeks. Faculty may check out books for one term. If a book currently charged to a patron's account is placed on hold by another patron, the book will not be able to be renewed and must be brought back by the due date.

Alumni of LRU/LTSS
Local LRU/LTSS alumni are granted borrowing privileges for the Lineberger Memorial Library free of charge (though a donation of $10 cash/year is encouraged, which will go toward the library's coffee ministry for students of LTSS and LRU Columbia). They may borrow a total of five books at a time for four weeks with two unseen renewals. Additionally, the library subscribes to the ATLA for Alumni database. For those alumni needing books who are not local to Columbia, we encourage you to seek out theological libraries are in your geographic area and to utilize your local public library's interlibrary loan service.

 

NON-AFFILIATED LIBRARY PATRONS
Those who are not current faculty, staff, students, alumni, or faculty emeriti of LRU/LTSS will be granted library privileges based on the categories below. It is the responsibility of the patron to keep the library informed of changes to their contact information in a timely manner.

Consortium borrowers

Consortium borrowers are those affiliated with colleges, universities, and seminaries that are also institutional members of ATLA (the American Theological Library Assotiation) or ACL (the Association of Christian Librarians). These patrons are granted borrowing privileges free of charge and must show a current school ID card when registering. They may borrow a total of 5 books at a time for a 4 week loan period. In order to check out books, they must have the library card provided by the Lineberger Memorial Library upon registration with them. If a good borrowing record is maintained, patrons may renew their account each year, but the library reserves the right to suspend borrowing privileges at any time should the patron's account not be in good standing. If a book currently charged to a patron's account is placed on hold by another patron, the book will not be able to be renewed and must be brought back by the due date.

Courtesy borrowers

Courtesy borrowers consist of local clergy and church staff as well as faculty and staff from other colleges and universities in Columbia. These patrons are granted borrowing privileges free of charge (though a donation of $10 cash/year is encouraged, which will go toward the library's coffee ministry for students of LTSS and LRU Columbia). Local clergy and church staff must provide proof of employment by a local congregation by way of the church's website, a business card, or any other document that proves employment. Faculty, staff, and students of other Columbia-area colleges and universities must show a current school ID card when registering and their registration will be confirmed upon verification of employment or student status. They may borrow a total of 5 books at a time for a 4 week loan period. In order to check out books, they must have the library card provided by the Lineberger Memorial Library upon registration with them. If a good borrowing record is maintained, patrons may renew their accounts each year, but the library reserves the right to suspend borrowing privileges at any time should the patron's account not be in good standing. If a book currently charged to a patron's account is placed on hold by another patron, the book will not be able to be renewed and must be brought back by the due date.

 Other borrowers that don't fall into any of the above categories

Residents of Columbia and the surrounding area who are 18 and older may be granted borrowing privileges for an annual fee of $25. They may borrow a total of 5 books at a time for a 4 week loan period. In order to check out books, they must have the library card provided by the Lineberger Memorial Library upon registration with them. If a good borrowing record is maintained, these patrons may renew their accounts each year, but the library reserves the right to suspend borrowing privileges at any time should the patron's account not be in good standing. If a book currently charged to a patron's account is placed on hold by another patron, the book will not be able to be renewed and must be brought back by the due date.
