Articles from Scholarly Journals

There are many fine articles that are commentaries on biblical texts. Use a periodical database such as Atla Religion to find these articles published in scholarly journals. Atla Religion database also allows searching at the chapter and verse level.

Atla Religion

This database defaults to a basic keyword search. However, the quickest way to find commentaries on the precise passages you need is to use the scripture tab in the blue ribbon above the search fields.

1. Click the scripture tab. Scroll until you find the book and click “expand.” Ex: John.
2. Select the chapter and either click on that chapter to see all articles on the entire chapter, or click “expand” to see the range of verses. Clicking on the versewill yield all articles on that verse.
3. If you see an article that is not available in full-text, check with library staff, and we might be able to find it through another source.

This is less targeted, so you will also retrieve articles by all authors named Mark.
