Creating a Google Drive Account

It's easy. Just go to http://drive.google.com.

Sign in with your Google account username and password. 

OR create a Google account by clicking on "Get Started." You can use ANY email address; it doesn't have to be a Gmail account.

 

Canvas Collaborations

The Collaborations tab in your Canvas course an easy place to keep track of group projects, and also to set up collaboration easily without having to swap emails. You (and all your collaborators) will need a Google account in order to participate in any Google Docs collaborations. Instructions.

Arguably one of the best (free) ways to collaborate from a distance, your Google Drive account will automatically save any content you create or edit using one of Google's alternatives to Microsoft Office tools above. Drive features include:

  • You can sign up for a free Drive account with any email address - it doesn't have to be a Gmail account.
  • Documents, spreadsheets, and presentations are stored online and can be accessed from any computer, anywhere and anytime.
  • Multiple Drive users can access and edit the same document, spreadsheet, or presentation. Learn how here.
  • There is a live chat function within Docs, Presentations, and Spreadsheets so you can collaborate in real time.
  • You can create documents, spreadsheets and presentations in Google Docs, or upload existing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.
  • iPhone and Android apps! Access all your stuff in the Drive app, and create and edit documents spreadsheets with new apps for Docs and Sheets.
